Mayor Matt Brown will be issuing a formal apology to London’s LGBT+ community.
In 1995, London’s City Council refused to issue a Gay Pride Proclamation.
The leaders of the Homophile Association of London Ontario (HALO) fought this injustice and won. In 1997, it was decided by the Ontario Human Rights Commission that the City of London and then Mayor Dianne Haskett had discriminated against HALO in the provision of municipal service.
Following much discussion with the LGBT+ community, a formal apology will be issued by Mayor Brown on the front steps of City Hall tomorrow.
