London is watching with excitement and anticipation as our Olympic and Paralympic athletes compete in the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janerio, Brazil.
Getting a spot on Team Canada takes hard work, dedication and incredible skill. We are already so proud of London’s athletes and we will be cheering them on from home as they go for gold on the world stage.
I had the privilege of sending off a few of London’s athletes over the past week. It is fantastic to see the years of training and sacrifice pay off.
Our city has a total of nine competitors at Rio 2016. Good luck to Lanni, Alysha, Damian, Miranda, Suzanne, Lesley, Jessie, Shelina and TJ. London is with you every step of the way.
A special thank you to London’s homegrown Hudson Boat Works for equipping Canada’s rowing team with a fantastic fleet of carbon-fibre boats. A true made in London success story, once again putting our city on the world map for excellence in sport.
On Monday, August 8 London will welcome The Tragically Hip for the Man Machine Poem tour. Join me outside of Budweiser Gardens that evening to say thank you and celebrate everything this iconic Canadian band has accomplished over the years.
