Newsletter: July 22

Over the past few weeks our city has hosted some top notch festivals; and with those festivals come world renowned artists, cuisine from around the globe and an economic boost, all proving London Is On.

This July we saw Sunfest take over Victoria Park, with more than 250,000 people in our downtown core over the weekend. That was followed by Home County Music Festival and Rock the Park.

It makes me so proud to see Londoners of all ages out enjoying themselves in our downtown core, whether they are in Victoria Park, Harris Park, one of our unique shops or fantastic restaurants.

Following these festivals, our community banded together to mark London’s annual Pride celebration.

I am thrilled to be part of this year’s Pride Parade on Sunday and I hope you will join me. It is always an honour to walk alongside those who champion acceptance and inclusivity for the LGBTQ2+ community.

This year, the Pride Flag was raised at both London Police Headquarters and HMCS Prevost for the first time. Thank you to our men and women in uniform.

As a precursor to the celebration Council decided to paint five crosswalks across the city rainbow colours.

The raising of the rainbow flag and our newly painted crosswalks are a small symbol of what we can do to ensure everyone knows London is a safe and accepting city for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race or religion.

Just because we are moving towards the end of the summer seasons doesn’t mean London is slowing down.

There is so much on tap for this fall, including Country Music Week 2016. London will host this year’s Canadian Country Music Association Awards, putting our city front and center on the global stage, once again.

Join me in welcoming some of the best artists, producers and labels country music has to offer. I am looking forward to joining in on the celebrations and showing the country music community what London has to offer.

Please enjoy the rest of the summer by getting out and visiting our amazing city parks, pools and splash pads. Play safe and cherish the warm weather while it lasts.
