This week, the City received a one-year update on London’s Community Economic Roadmap, our city’s plan to boost economic growth and create meaningful cross-sector partnerships.

The Roadmap came to be after this Council asked for ways to enhance economic development and coordinate with all the amazing partners we have here in London.

The roadmap outlines five areas that we need to focus on to make our city the absolute best place to live, work and play; a city for entrepreneurs, a supportive business environment, an exceptional downtown and a vibrant urban environment, a top quality workforce, and a national centre of excellence for medical innovation and commercialization.

That means creating and fostering growth in our city; it means collaborating on what makes our city a success. It means helping small business owners get their feet under them, helping grad students find meaningful employment and giving mature students the tools to retrain for a second career.

This is a strategy for the whole of London, and I can’t thank everyone enough for contributing to the economic success of our community.

It is also important that we recognize our Remembrance Day ceremony. I was so pleased to see so many Londoners gathered at the Cenotaph in Victoria Park to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

We are forever indebted to our service men and women for their bravery and courage.

It was fantastic to see the immense show of support from residents of this city who recognize that our veterans are to be thanked, held high and remembered.

Soon, our Cenotaph will undergo much needed restoration so it may continue to be a prominent tribute to those that have served. The upgraded memorial will include a tribute to those who served in the war in Afghanistan. Lest we forget.
